- Rated voltage up to 24 kV
- Standard switchgear in air-insulated or preferably gas-insulated design
Our compact DC substations are available at short notice as a temporary or permanent power supply for local and urban railways. They are built ready for use at our factory, with all systems pre-tested and delivered ready for connection. This reduces the time required for installation and commissioning on site to just a few hours.
Ready for operation
The DC substation in compact container design contains all the equipment required for operation:
- Oil, cast resin or dry transformers
- Installation in a separate transformer room
- TracFeed® TRx rectifier for easy accessibility and maintenance, also with retractable truck
- Natural air cooling in six or twelve-pulse design
- Performance and load class according to requirements
- TracFeed® TDx DC switchgear
- Rated voltage DC 750 V
- Circuit breaker panels in switchgear truck technology
- Panel width 500 mm or 800 mm (incl. outgoing cable panel)
- TracFeed® DCP 3 protection and control units
- Systems for buffered power supply to the compact substation
- Control and monitoring by means of a central unit and decentralised automation units in the DC switchgear (DCP 3) and in the medium-voltage switchgear
- Remote control coupling
For temporary or permanent use
The building shell of the DC substation can be made of either concrete, coated steel or glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP).
The permanent solution for traction power supply
The slightly lower costs and durability speak in favour of concrete construction. It can be designed in accordance with EN 62271-202 with arc fault classification IAC-AB, 20 kA, 1 s, which offers a wide range of installation options and makes it easy to install in public areas.
The flexible solution for traction power supply
The steel or GRP versions are preferable for temporary applications for reasons of mass – the ideal solution for conversion or modernisation work on existing substations. Thanks to the transportable container design, our DC substation can be relocated flexibly.
Steel construction
- Welded hollow steel profile base frame with welded-in structural steel panel as outer wall; alternatively bolted hollow steel profile base frame; seamlessly galvanised, outer wall made of aluminium or galvanised structural steel panel
- Painted in RAL colours or veneered
- Raised false floor
- Pressure release flaps
- Dimensions: ISO standard dimensions or special sizes up to 12 m long and 4 m wide
- Integrated shading or integrated air conditioning possible
Concrete construction
- Factory-assembled concrete cell
- according to EN 62271-202 with arc fault classification IAC-AB, 20 kA, 1 s
- Seamless machining of the base bodies from a single casting with a removable roof
- Façades with plaster in RAL colours or veneering with wood, clinker, slate and natural stone possible
- Corrosion-free doors, ventilation and pressure release openings made of anodised aluminium
- Protection against impact and vandalism
- Resistance to weathering, additional thermal insulation is also possible
- Non-sensitive to condensation
- Waterproof even in the ground
- Raised false floor
- Dimensions e.g. 9.1 m x 3.4 m x 3.3 m (L x W x H)
Your pre-tested quality solution
Our DC substations are installed and tested at the factory.
The usual construction site difficulties, such as dirt, tricky access conditions, weather and environmental conditions, have no effect. Any necessary adaptation work can be carried out at the factory using machines with the highest precision. To ensure the highest quality and functionality, all connections of the installed systems as well as the connections from and to the outside up to the transfer terminal block are tested. Rail Power Systems provides you with a solution that can go into operation within a few hours after connecting the external power cables and
control lines.
Scalable according to your requirements
Our compact DC substation requires only a small amount of space. This means that several units can be easily combined for higher performance requirements. From an energy perspective, you benefit from the advantages of decentralised traction power supply with several, but smaller DC substations. The requirements for high availability are achieved through redundancy in the grid, i.e. through neighbouring DC substations. At the same time, redundant systems, such as a second transformer/direct current unit and a double busbar system with a bypass switchgear panel, can be installed within
the DC substations.
