The TracFeed TDx generation of switchgear panels proves its reliability and performance each and every day in thousands of switchgear panels and is indispensable in the railway sector. With a history spanning 130 years, Rail Power Systems stands for expertise in the field of DC switchgear panels and is also our promise of stability and efficiency in railway operation. Our product portfolio is as comprehensive as the customer-specific requirements for DC traction power supply are diverse – from trolleybus systems to light and heavy local transport and long-distance trains. Based on a platform concept, switchgear panels are available for two different rated voltages and five graded rated continuous currents.

The product at a glance

The TracFeed® TDx product platform includes circuit breaker panels as well as disconnector panels with the following two rated voltages:

TracFeed® TDA with rated voltage DC 750 V
TracFeed® TDB with rated voltage DC 1,500 V

Both variants have an identical basic construction with a stable modular frame. There is a metal partition wall between the switchgear panels, which is clad with insulating panels. The switchgear panels are screwed together on site and can be installed on the wall or in the room. Other modules are designed so that they can be easily integrated according to your requirements.

First select the switchgear panels from the TracFeed® TDx platform. Then you can select the corresponding rectifiers from the TracFeed® TRx product line.

Components of a DC switchgear panel

Control and protection compartment:
Accessible via a separate door to which the digital TracFeed® DCP3 multifunctional device is attached for ease of access. Also included: the necessary circuit breakers, relays and terminals
Interconnection wiring duct:
Metal cable duct for the field-to-field connection of the ring, control and bus cables. The large lockable opening ensures easy access for maintenance work.

Variants

We put together different field variants from the modular system according to your individual requirements:

Furthermore, you decide on the type of circuit breaker and the required current rating.

Functionality

The circuit breaker is used for energising and de-energising the feeder sections as required. Together with various protective devices, it also protects the operating equipment.

Line current measurement with isolated signal for evaluation and practical arrangement for convenient and safe maintenance
Line test for reliable activation of line sections
Safety through interlocking of truck removal, optionally available interlocks to prevent unauthorised operating and switching actions
Shutter and contact protection – the shutter system guarantees an IP30 protection rating and prevents contact with live components in the busbar compartment
Circuit breaker
Also with bypass functionality or cable disconnect switch if required. The following types of circuit breaker are available to choose from:
- GE – Gerapid 2607 / 4207 / 6007
- Sécheron – UR 26 / UR 40 / UR 46
Switchgear panel
Choose the compact 500 mm wide circuit breaker panel or also the 300 mm wide cable connection panel (for safe and convenient maintenance) and optionally the installation of cable disconnectors
Operation:direct ON/OFF
Direct control of the circuit breaker in the control and protection compartment. Optional: manually operated parameter switching of the TracFeed® DCP3 protection groups

Disconnector panel

Variants

As with the circuit breaker panel, you can choose from several variants of the disconnector panel and add options to meet your specific requirements.

We supply the following variants:

Incomer panel
Negative return panel
Combined incomer and negative return panel

Functionality

Incomer panels are used to connect and disconnect a rectifier to/from the main busbar
Negative return panels are used to connect and disconnect the contact rail to/from the return conductor of a rectifier

Components

Interlocking and system protection as protection against switching errors. Optionally, we can also combine them with key interlocks. The operating sequence is strictly predefined as standard: the interlocking can only be actuated if the medium-voltage circuit breaker is switched off and the incomer disconnector is open.
Rectifier current and voltage measurements. Protection is provided by the frame fault protection. Optional: individual current indications are available on the door.

When space is limited: TracFeed® TDx-Light

Based on the reliable and powerful TracFeed® TDx DC product line, the smaller TracFeed® TDx-L variant allows you to switch effectively, even when space is limited.

Two-pole panel version, e.g. for trolleybus or people mover

The product platform offers two switchgear panel variants:

With TracFeed® TDx, compact panel depths of 1.35 m and the highest current values are possible
With TracFeed® TDx-L, panel depths of 1.20 m and an optimised design for a lower power range are possible

The corresponding rectifiers are available within the TracFeed® TRx product line. With the TracFeed® TDx-L product line, you will find circuit breaker panels as well as disconnector panels in the most commonly used variants. The reduced panel depth of the TracFeed® TDx-L of 1.20 m makes it possible to assemble switchgear that can be optimally integrated into retrofit projects and new-build projects with spatial constraints.
