Air-insulated 15 kV switchgear for the 16.7 Hz traction power supply
TracFeed® TAA

The modern solution for your traction power supply

TracFeed® TAA is designed to meet the special requirements of modern 15 kV 16.7 Hz traction power supply and is climate-friendly thanks to SF6-free air insulation. As the interface between power generation and the overhead contact line system, our traction power switchgear reliably supplies energy for electric railways. TracFeed® TAA can be used with all types of power supply, including autotransformer (AT) and booster systems. A decisive benefit for operators and the environment.

Your advantages at a glance

  • SF6-free and therefore climate-friendly
  • Intuitive operation on the front of the panel
  • Easy to install and maintain locally
  • Long service life
  • Standardised safety
Protecting our environment

The environment in which we live is the basis of human life. The raw materials required for the production of goods and services are taken from the environment. However, not all raw materials are available in unlimited quantities or are renewable. That is why one of Rail Power Systems’ goals is to protect our environment.

We make sure that our TracFeed® TAA is produced in a way that conserves resources and remains environmentally friendly in the long term:

  • Circuit breaker with vacuum interrupters
  • Air insulation avoids the harmful greenhouse gas sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
  • Simple and safe recycling of the materials used at the end of their service life
The product at a glance
TracFeed® TAA with retracted and extended carriage
  • Solid-insulated 25 kV switchgear for 50/60 Hz traction power supply
  • The world’s first type-tested switchgear with complete solid insulation
  • Can be used with all feeding types including AT and booster systems
  • Clean, SF6-free and innovative solution for the future
  • Serves all 1- and 2-pole systems of long-distance and local rail transport
  • Compact design and small dimensions (400 mm panel width) enable reduced dimensions of the substation structure (up to 50% possible) and significant cost savings
  • Made in Germany: Development and production in Germany
  • Origin guarantees precision and quality in processing as well as reliability in railway operations

Mechanical construction

  • Robust, hot-dip galvanised sheet steel housing for a long service life of at least 30 years
  • Separate functional compartments for circuit breaker, line feeder and busbar. The busbar is additionally segregated between panels.
  • Integrated pressure release channel enables safe discharge from the building

Maintenance-friendly design

Electrical devices that are considered maintenance-free in the public power supply require preventive maintenance in traction power systems due to the high switching frequency. The necessary works are minimised by:

  • Truck-mounted circuit breaker and line testing equipment
→ Simple and time-saving access for maintenance
  • Air insulation
→ No handling of insulating gas (SF6), no pressurised compartments required
  • Metal enclosure
    → Minimises dust deposits

Technical properties of TracFeed® TAA

  • Compact system design thanks to field-integrated, maintenance-free line testing equipment
  • Switchgear panels are type-tested according to EN 62271-200 and EN 50152
  • Prefabricated compact switchgear
  • Use of circuit breakers meeting special requirements of railway standard
  • Earthing of line feeders directly using a short circuit-proof earthing switch
  • Up to 4 medium-voltage cables (630 mm²) with indoor sealing ends and an external diameter of 70 mm can be connected to each outgoing circuit
  • Easy and fast installation on site
  • Installation without cable cellar is possible

All-round safe operation

Due to frequent, but mostly temporary short circuits in the overhead contact line system, the traction power switchgear is essential for safe electrical railway operation by protecting:

  • People from dangerous contact and step voltages
  • The environment from harmful emissions and
  • Rail infrastructure from undue stress

Maximum safety

  • Integrated mechanical and electrical interlocking
  • Metal enclosed with three high voltage compartments
  • Automatically operated shutter system to protect operators from accessing live parts
  • Capacitive voltage indication (optional)
  • Pressure-proof segregations limit internal failure effects
  • Integrated pressure release channel
Standard field types 1- and 2-pole TracFeed® TAA

Useful addition: Pressure release cover

The TracFeed® DEH pressure release hood can be used in conjunction with the 15 kV TracFeed® TAA switchgear. It diverts excess pressure from the pressure release channels upwards out of the switchgear building. Depending on requirements, pressure release hoods are available with or without a pressure release channel.
