Overhead conductor rail
TracFeed® OSS

The solution when space is tight

For travel speeds of up to 250 km/h, TracFeed® OSS is the space-saving alternative to overhead contact lines. Due to their significantly lower system height, our overhead conductor rails are popular in tunnels, maintenance halls and depots. The system offers a high level of safety and, in its swivelling version (TracFeed® SAM), flexibility for loading systems, bascule and lift bridges as well as inspections and installations on the train roof. TracFeed® OSS has been certified by Eisenbahn-Cert (EBC, notified body) for all lines in the interoperable, cross-border network of the European Union as per TSI (Technical Specifications of Interoperability) and is also approved by the following organisations and operators: Deutsche Bahn AG, Network Rail, Federal Railways Office, SBB and Swiss Federal Office of Transport BAV.

Your advantages at a glance

  • Certified for EU, CH and UK
  • Space-saving with low ceiling height
  • Swivelling for loading, train maintenance, bascule and lift bridges
  • Free of mechanical tensile stress
  • Expansion compensation in the event of temperature fluctuations
  • Installation-friendly mounting distances
  • Maintenance-free with only visual inspection required

The system at a glance

TracFeed® OSS is a rigid contact line system made of extruded aluminium profiles. In addition to its large electrical cross-section, the overhead conductor rail also has a high breaking strength and safety with low maintenance and servicing requirements.

PROFILES FOR EVERY APPLICATION
  • The OSS116GF profile was specially designed for use within washing facilities, as the corrosion-accelerating effect caused by connecting two galvanic elements does not occur since this profile does not require a copper-based contact wire
  • The profile with a height of 80 mm is used in very confined spaces that require a very low installation height
  • The profile with a height of 110 mm is the most widely used form and is suitable for speeds of up to 200 km/h
  • The profile with a height of 130 mm allows larger standard longitudinal support widths and thus higher speeds due to the higher surface moment of inertia

Robust and powerful

Due to the high copper equivalent cross-section area, parallel feeder lines are not required. High continuous currents of up to 4.0 kA can also be realised with this system. Tests have confirmed that a rated conditional short circuit current of 47.5 kA/114 ms and a rated peak withstand current of 120 kA can be carried by TracFeed® OSS.

Without tensile stress

The profiles are connected to each other by means of internal positive-locking connecting plates. Once the overhead conductor rail has been assembled, the contact wire is clamped into the profile and does not require any additional tensioning. This means that the system is free of mechanical tensile stress. In principle, any grooved contact wire in accordance with EN 50149 is suitable as a contact wire.

Supports

The maximum support spacing of the TracFeed® OSS overhead conductor rail is up to 14 m, depending on the intended operating speed and the selected profile. The following applies: The higher the speed, the shorter the longitudinal span.

Expansion compensation

The TracFeed® OSS overhead conductor rail system is divided into sections of at most 900 m, which are fixed halfway along their length by a fixed point. The individual sections overlap by a few metres in the transition areas. The bent-up end pieces of the sections make it easier for the current collector to pass over them and the parallel arrangement enables length compensation in the event of temperature changes.

Alternative: Dilatation

Expansion joint devices can be used as an alternative to arrangement of a parallel panel. Here, the relevant adjacent sections are directly connected to each other by means of plain bearings and the conductor rails can move against each other. This allows the current collector to pass through the expansion joint not only without interruption, but also without virtually any offset on one line, even at high speeds.
