Management

Dr. Michael Bernhardt

Chairman of the Management Board

Rail Power Systems is headed by Dr. Michael Bernhardt. In November 2015, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Rail Power Systems GmbH, the successor company to Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH. Having obtained a doctorate in physics, he began his career in 1993 as a consultant with THOST Projektmanagement, where he worked on creating and launching project structures and management processes for major infrastructure-related projects. Between 1999 and 2008, he worked at Thales, an international technology company specialising in rail signalling technology, where he held various positions before being appointed head of projects in the domestic market. In 2008, he moved to Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH as Director of Sales and Marketing. From 2009 to 2015, he was also appointed Managing Director of InoSig GmbH. In April 2013, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH. Since November 2011, Dr. Michael Bernhardt has been actively involved in the German Railway Industry Association (VDB) as spokesperson for the VDB Infrastructure Working Group and on the Executive Committee as Vice President Infrastructure.

Carsten Becker

Managing Director

After completing an apprenticeship as a banker, Carsten Becker studied business administration at the Universities of Regensburg and Maastricht. In 2002, he began his career at Deloitte & Touche GmbH, Munich, where he first qualified as a tax consultant and then as an auditor. In 2014, he moved to a large international tourism group, where he initially worked as Group Director Finance and later as Group Chief Financial Officer. As of 1 January 2024, Mr. Becker is Managing Director of Rail Power Systems GmbH, based in Munich.
